Typically posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and convey information. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians and films), propagandists, protestors and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to original artwork. Another type of poster is the educational poster, which may be about a particular subject for educational purposes. I saw some posters at Blockbuster, some ordinary posters of popular movies and scenes and it seems like clear sand was plastered over the poster to give it a rough professional look. Q. Years ago there was this set of posters that spread really well, they were pretty much everywhere. The design is very distinguishable: there's a picture of something, often depicting some emotion or quality. Below the picture is a word or two, punchline of a kind, that makes the idea clear. Around this all there is a wide black border. What is the name of the designer that first came up with the set, and where on the net can I find samples of the posters, and perhaps even the website of his company? I have seen those in offices, and I don't know who came up with them as far as the designer, but I'm almost certain that it was an ad agency. They're intended to be motivational posters, and they got to be ubiquitous for a while, as you pointed out. To me, they got to be a cliche, and I personally got TOTALLY sick of them.
